Lesson 1
Students worked in class on how to identify and discriminate most common English stress patterns in words. Group games really helped students when discovering and learning how patterns arise when stressing syllables within words.

Lesson 2
The topic for this lesson was a corner stone in the project since they had to do with key aspects on sentence stress: emphasizing content words. The main objectives for this lesson were:

• Singing out a rhyme to raise awareness of rhythm.
• Categorizing words according to the part of speech they belong to.
• Listening to a piece of news about Piracy and highlighting focus words (content words) on it.

1 comentario:

  1. The first lesson dealt with specific patterns of word stress. Journals revealed that students deemed it important the fact that the different approaches to learn stress patterns (visual, kinesthetic, audio activities) helped them to grasp the main concepts in word stress.

The lesson on the 16th of September aimed to help students how to create the rhythm of English, by raising awareness on how to emphasize content words in sentences. If they were aware of the distinction between content and function words, they may were able to give appropriate meaning to sentences. According to what they wrote in the journals, students found really surprising how by stressing the right words in a sentence, meaning was effectively conveyed. They also deemed it important to emphasize content words in order to improve fluency and thus they considered also essential to keep doing those kind of exercises in which content words are identified and read louder that the others.
